Day 2: acclimatisation day.

Another sunny day and a chance to walk in just T shirt & shorts, which was very welcome.  Over the last 10 weeks I've been walking in the Lake District in 3 and sometimes 4 layers!
After breakfast the plan was to walk up Thakcho 'hill' and back down again. This be a climb from 9,300ft to 10,824, and yes, straight up; however as with all Himalyan walks, the view was well worth it
The climb was through pine forests and then down passing a typical Sherpa home
Throughout the forest and open fields were a profusion of Himalayan primula
We arrived back at our lodge just before it started to rain, so time for a shower before the hot water ran out; all the water is solar heated and therefore limited. The windows of the lodge are ornately and decorated and typical of the lodges and tea houses.
Outside they have a great display of the Bhuddist prayer flags
Red for Fire. Green for the Earth, Yellow for Heaven (or Nirvana) Blue for Water and White for Wind. Prayer flags are seen everywhere, not just in the villages, but high up in the hills, on the suspension bridges and all along the trekking routes.

Preem our Sherpa heard on the radio that the days flights to Lukla had been cancelled due to bad weather and there were 152 people waiting back in Kathmandu! So glad our flight made it.
After a dinner of curried mutton, momos (Tibetan dim sum) and stir fried veg, it was time for an early night 8:30pm. As I'm still struggling with the time difference and the thinner air, I was awake at midnight reading my kindle!
