After an early breakfast we set off at 7:20 on a freezing, but sunny morning, heading for Gorak Shep.
I have to admit that I don't remember the details of the trek, except that it was a tough trail!

I do remember passing some trekkers going the other way and one of the women told me that Base Camp was closed!!! She then said "April Fool" I had completely forgotten that it was the First of April.
We could tell it was a classy lodge when we saw this solar kettle heater outside!
Gorak Shep at a height of 16,941ft/5,165m is the highest village in the Himalayas
