Day 15: Monjo to Lukla

The final day in the Everest region had finally arrived and I was wishing we had a few more. My legs are feeling strong, breathing is SO much easier and the weather is much milder.  Although this part of the trek was tough on the outward journey, it seemed much easier going back. Here are a few of the images I saw on the last day:

The main 'street' through Monjo
It's a family business selling apples and oranges!
 Gangnam Style?
Within 2 weeks the blossom had arrived

I think I'll pass on this room!

Buddhist Monks discussing the meaning of life and laundry.

Let's mend the bridge the old fashioned way.
The Wheat & Barley crops were shooting up

Cabbages and garlic for soups
I'm not sure if this is part of THE Holiday Inn chain

The equivalent of a Nepali Seven Eleven
As we climbed the very last hill into Lukla, there were a few Nepali children waiting to greet us and present us with rhododendron flowers.

Lukla Main Street - there is always an Irish bar in every town.

You've got to admit it, it's a creative fake.
 Traffic jam
The rhododendron forest above Lukla.
On reaching the lodge our main occupation was watching the weather and debating as to the chances of getting our flight out in the morning. It's not uncommon to be stuck in Lukla for days on end.
Traditionally the last day of the trek is time to give tips to the guide, helper and porters. It is also encouraged to give them any unwanted clothes and equipment - washed or unwashed!!
Here is the team after presenting them with tips, socks, t shirts, gloves, etc etc.
